Cody & Kathleen’s Love Story

Cody and I met at Indian Creek Community Church when I was leading their College Ministry. We both were very busy and somehow along the way realized that what we were doing wasn’t what we wanted to do with the rest of our lives. Our friendship started with late night conversations aboutwhy life wasn’t satisfying us. As time went on, we both quit those positions and focused on youth ministry. I asked Cody to help lead the College group with me, and we also became very active with the middle and high school youth group. After about 3 months I knew I liked Cody, but he was focused on remaining friends. A year and a half later, we finally started dating. We ended up having multiple heart to heart conversations about what dating meant, looked like, felt like, how we could be the best example to the students we were leading, It took two years of many honest conversations, counseling, break-ups, open heart conversations with mentors and each other, to finally decide we really were in love. Not a mushy fairy tale love, but a true-deep-lasting-selfless-forever-love. We wanted to spend our lives together, travel to see the world together, and start a family of our own. We were engaged for nine months and knew we were ready to get married. I have always wanted to have a unique wedding, without all of the traditional aspects: beautiful, stressful, but usually boring. So I started to keep track of things I liked at weddings, and things I didn’t like. I wanted my day to stand out in the sea of weddings people attend, and for guests to remember a grand celebration: a mix between a tea party, a ball, and a picnic in a garden. From traveling in Europe, I knew I wanted the style to be a Victorian mix of English and Parisian with my own vintage favorites thrown in the mix. I love hats, tea, lace gloves, and flowers. I will always remember this speical day and our commitment and vow to always be there for each other no matter what. Our day was made up of countless perfect moments and memories that will be held forever in my heart.

The Groom’s Favorite Moment of the Day 

At the risk of sounding cliche, without a doubt, my favorite moment of the wedding was Kathleen’s processional.  At that moment, I had my best friend   standing beside me, the most important people in my life surrounding me, friends and family from all of the world filling the room, and there was my bride!

The Bride’s Favorite Moment of the Day

My favorite moment was our recessional,. As we were pronounced “Mr. and Mrs.” for the first time, I held my beautiful bouquet and we both were cheering with everyone else that we were finally married. The guests threw white Queen Anne’s lace flowers and the band began to play our recessional song, “I’ll be there for you”.

Special Touches 

I didn’t want to be the only one wearing white, so we incorporated it as much as possible in our wedding colors, even asking the guests to wear white to include them in the wedding day.Instead of a photo booth, we decided it would be fun to have a dress up table for guests to pick out hats and vintage gloves to wear during our tea-themed cocktail hour.
