Michael & Melissa’s Love Story

After debating between a few dates, Michael and I decided to get married on August 30th, 2014. It wasn’t until a few days later when I shared with my Grandpa Jack the date we had decided on, that he told me that he married my late Grandmother on the same date many years ago. If that wasn’t enough, a few months later, my aunt came across an old document that revealed that my Great Grandfather and Grandmother also shared August 30th as their wedding date. It was more than a coincidence. Our goal for the wedding was to have our family and friends be stress-free and not responsible for any of the major events on the day of the wedding. We wanted everyone to relax and enjoy the moment. There were various people helping, and because of all of these wonderful people, the day was virtually stress-free for Michael, myself, and our families. We were even more grateful for all of these individuals when Mother Nature decided to force our outdoor ceremony under the reception tent due to rain and hail. It was a bit disappointing that the ceremony didn’t happen outdoors the way we had planned, but the fact that we would be husband and wife at the end of the day made any problem seem petty and un-important. We were all smiles through the raindrops, and were blessed with a beautiful rainbow that appeared over the tent just as the ceremony finished. We didn’t have a particular theme for the wedding, but the vibe we wanted to create was simple elegance. The tent was decorated with flowers in shades of white, green, and purple. Beautiful white draping along the ceiling added a soft and romantic touch. The reception was complete with a delicious dinner and all of the traditional reception events. We even made time for a few sparkler photos at dusk. The evening ended as we exited through a tunnel of sparklers held by our friends and family and climbed into a classic car. When I think back on the day, I don’t think of the cake, or the flowers, or the dress. I think of the people I was surrounded by and the emotions I felt. Most importantly, I think of him. I think of Michael and the commitment we made to each other on our wedding day, and I can’t help but grin as I think of spending the rest of my life with him.

The Groom’s Favorite Part of the Day

My favorite memories are from Melissa walking down the aisle, our first kiss as man and wife, and the special time we spent together after our first look.

The Bride’s Favorite Part of the Day

An unforgettable part of the wedding weekend occurred not on our wedding day, but at the rehearsal dinner. In the midst of the mingling and chatting after the meal, Michael subtly began setting up a large TV in the front of the room. Needless to say, I became suspicious. At the beginning of our engagement we had talked about creating a slideshow to play at the rehearsal dinner, but for various reasons decided against it. As my curiosity grew, Michael hooked his laptop to the TV, dimmed the lights, and I saw a picture of a little baby that I recognized all too well- it was me. He had surprised me with a slideshow with photographs documenting our lives from birth, all the way up until just a few weeks prior. My friends and family were in on it too as they provided the pictures, all without me knowing. I was a mess of happy tears.
