Booth   Cake: Cathy Hook Marcus & Megan’s Love Story Marcus and I met at a local rock climbing gym called Monster Mountain. I had just gotten back from teaching in New Zealand and Marcus had just returned from a medical mission trip in Belize. We were not looking for a relationship at the time but it was just meant to be and we could not of been any happier together. We were dating for 2 years before we got engaged. Marcus planned a wonderful, thoughtful proposal. I was in my second year of teaching and he knew how much I loved my school and students. So along with the support of my principal, coworkers and students he pulled off a wonderful proposal. I was sitting in my classroom talking with my principal about an upcoming literacy night when my kindergarten students came back early from PE. They were each holding a letter that spelled out “Megan will you marry me?” And then Marcus followed them in and then proposed. I was so surprised and overcome with joy! Marcus, our family, and I did all of the planning and DIY work. We hired a day of coordinator, which was a wonderful decision. We planned the whole time we were engaged, we loved dreaming of all the details. We picked the Historic Taylor Barn because we would always drive past it on the way to Marcus’ mom house and would comment on how lovely it was. After we visited, we fell in love with the look and laid back feeling. One of the most important of picking the venue was that they let you have your own catering…we had to have OK Joes BBQ! The whole wedding was based on “home.” We knew we would be moving away from Kansas City and wanted to have as many reminders of home and the things that we love. We carried this throughout our wedding with little details everywhere. We had a classic Midwestern windmill for our alter, Boulevard and Free State beer as well as BBQ. Every little detail reminded us of home and our families that love us. My grandma made the table numbers and table runners. Marcus’ mom made the cake. If we had to do it over we would not change a thing!  We loved all the DIY work that we did. Everywhere we looked we saw personal and family details.   The Groom’s Favorite Part of the Day My favorite part of the day was seeing Megan in her wedding dress for the first time at the ceremony. I know it has fallen out of favor with some, and is generally thought of as impractical (usually due to time constraints and demand for more time for photography, video, etc.), but there is nothing I can say that will do justice to how completely overcome and blown away I was when I first laid eyes on Megan in her gown. It made the entire day so much more special and meaningful for me. The Bride’s Favorite Part of the Day My favorite part of the wedding was how perfectly everything came together. The day was so laid back and fun for all of our guest and ourselves. My husband and I were so happy together and so were our guests.
